‘WHERE IS YOUR DAD? TRAGEDY IS EASY’ BY INSTITUTIONAL PROSTITUTION
sadaf from institutional prostitution does performance art and visual art and probably other things that I am not aware of. one time I looked at her blog and scrolled all the way and thought, ‘wow’ and then scrolled all the way back up and all the back down again. her stuff is usually intense and imaginative and passionate and brave. this is her musical project. it’s not about melody or song structure or corporatizing yourself, it’s about sound exploding itself from within or something, I don’t know. they played in the backyard at my house recently. a car alarm went off during the set and people thought it was sampling. I liked their set a lot, they were really into it.
‘THE GIRL FROM KOLN IS GONE’ BY D’EON
d’eon is a really nice dude. I have seen him play live more or less forty million times. I still like it. his music sounds like a depressed synthesizer trying to play the setar while a nude phil collins puts together a romantic mixtape of unreleased g-funk records in the background. if I listen to his albums late at night I usually start thinking, ‘step away from logic’ and ‘give in to all desires.’
‘SINGLE STATUS’ BY MOZART’S SISTER
I haven’t seen mozart’s sister live yet but I am including this track here as some sort of mental projection of myself seeing mozart’s sister live at a thing soon.
‘BAD TIME’ BY GOOSE HUT
I met rowan through concordia and now he’s in band called goose hut I guess.
‘CAN’T GET MY MIND OFF YOU’ BY SEAN NICHOLAS SAVAGE
I met sean nicholas savage in person on my birthday when I was on MDMA and made, somehow, a favorable impression.
‘THE HUMAN’ BY FLOW CHILD
I like this album a lot. it’s free on the label’s website (arbutus/movie star). if I was a smoker, this song would be perfect to hypnotize me into giving up nicotine. I saw him live in april. I was conversing with a person and then he started playing this song and I said, ‘hold on, I have to go do something’ and went into the crowd to move my body. a month later, I saw him somewhere and we talked about something but I was a little drunk, so I don’t remember if I said anything that I said made sense or not.
‘NEEDS’ BY ZOE K
we did some event thing in july that was a reading of independent literature with kind of a party component to it, to make it more fun/accessible. we wanted to have a music act play at the end and someone said that zoe k had really good stuff, but that she hadn’t really played live yet. I was unaware that zoe k had a music project, I just thought of her as a very nice person with a high level  of energy/creativity. I said, ‘oh.’ I listened to her soundcloud page. we asked her to play at the thing. she did amazingly well.
‘BLASPHEMY’ BY MIRACLE FORTRESS
in 2007 I think, ‘five roses’ by miracle fortress was my favorite album for a period of maybe five months. I seemed to identify with the line ‘I made a truce with my fascinations’ a lot. during that period, I saw graham van pelt play live in front in of a crowd of about fifteen people in a comically large venue. graham van pelt looked like he wanted to party but then realized that no one was there and looked really depressed after that. earlier this year, graham van pelt was at my house briefly. I wanted to tell graham van pelt , ‘I know this was four years ago and you’re probably over it by now, but remember that shit show with the fifteen people where you looked really depressed, well I liked it.’
